The Afropolitan Youth Association is looking for interns to join the planning committee of the largest African Festival in the state of Maryland, “FestAfrica”. The 14th Annual African Festival “FestAfrica 2016” is a 2-day celebration that will welcome 8,000 or more attendees on Saturday and Sunday August 13th and 14th 1pm-8pm at the Veteran’s Plaza 8523 Fenton Street, Silver Spring, MD.

There are several internship opportunities available for those who seek to enhance their professional and educational skills, networking alongside African youth in the community.
Interns will operate under the leadership of the Planning Committee Directors and alongside the Administrative Manager. Each intern will be given adequate training for the position they apply for. The festival is an excellent opportunity to gain an educational experience to serve as a stepping stone to further professional/career development. Opportunity for academic credit is available.  Please view available internships HERE.

Dedication of Time:

Positions are part-time with a weekly minimum of hours requirement, specific to the position you apply for but flexible schedules are available. Duration of internship/volunteer is 5 months (starting in April and ending in August).

Social Activities:

All Interns are encouraged to attend AYA events within the community. This is the best way to get to know the team, be engaged, ask questions, and foster long-lasting relationships.

Professional Development Activities:

Development of personal and professional skills is encouraged and vital during the internship process. We encourage all interns/volunteers to attend assigned monthly meetings and conference calls.

Bridge Program:

Our bridge program allows interns who have shown extensive dedication and commitment, to transition into a more permanent role on the planning committee (working alongside existing directors) should they desire to continue their participation.

To apply for an internship, please send your resume and cover letter outlining your learning goals and qualifications to info.festafrica@gmail.com (subject line: “Internship Application”). All high school and college students are encouraged to apply. Internships are unpaid. Application Deadline is March 31, 2016.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”340″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_single_image image=”129″ img_size=”large” style=”vc_box_outline”][vc_single_image image=”131″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_outline”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
